Snippets are those little pieces of text that show up in your Auto Preview (Outlook) or just after the subject line (Gmail) and many email marketers don’t even think about them - but they can make the difference between opening and not opening your email Jeanne Jennings over at ClickZ writes a great article about Optimizing for Snippets. One thing not really mentioned in the email, but I’m an avid user of both Outlook and Gmail, and not only is this feature important IN the inbox, but also Outlook, (and Gmail if you use GoogleTalk) will pop up a little box with this important text along with the subject and from name while you are working on something else. So if you can really make the most of the snippets - it can make the difference between dropping everything to read YOUR email instead of ignoring it all together.
